A distinguished soldier and upstanding citizen

a life well lived

Gone but never forgotten — General Sir Phillip Harvey Bennett, AC, KBE, DSO was born on December 27, 1928 in Perth. The General was a senior officer of the Australian Army who served as Chief of the Australian Defence Force from 1984 to 1987, and later as Governor of Tasmania from 1987 to 1995. Family friend and advisor to me for over 30 years. Phillip and Margaret lived for several years in Ainslie, Canberra. Lady Margaret predeceased him, and he remained in Canberra but later moved to a residence in Kyneton, near his daughter Jane and her family. He died on August 1, 2023.
