Rice Bar
🏳️🌈 Shanghai Gay Guide 🏳️🌈
PERSISTENTLY CONSISTENT
Now still going after a decade (opened in 2009), Rice is a small Japanese-themed non-smoking lounge with a laid-back vibe on the 2nd floor above a challenging staircase within the gayborhood. A quiet, local and well stocked bar with a loyal following of young Asians who make up the regulars who generally seem open to meeting new friends.
A small space with bar, selection of tables and lounges that seems to never change or evolve over the past decade. Good for a few drinks before heading out to other gayborhood space, or settle in for an evening of conversation.
Be warned, the steep, curved and uneven tread staircase with a low hanging overhead beam can be tricky to navigate when slightly tipsy or those with larger feet. If you smoke, you will have lots of practice on the staircase since there is no smoking in the bar. 8pm until late.
Ask for Chinese, Japanese and English speaking owner Takuya.
