Elaine Cusick


a life well lived

Gone but never forgotten — Elaine (Laine) Cusick was born in Punchbowl, Sydney on the 16th of September 1934 and began a two-year course at NIDA in 1959 and in 1960, graduated with the first batch of 23 students with a Diploma in Acting.

Elaine then commenced what became a very successful career on stage, radio (winning the Radio Industry’s ‘Goldie Award’ multiple times for Best Commercial Voice), TV and film.

In film, Elaine is known for Fortress (1985), Robbery Under Arms (1985), Mr Reliable (1996), The Settlement (1984); and the short film Stations and also in the 1980’s in TV, A Country Practice, The Last Outlaw, Silent Reach, Prisoner: Cell Block H, The Day of the Roses, Until Tomorrow, Division 4 and Homicide.

She was a beloved veteran of the Australian stage, having worked extensively at the Queensland Theatre Company including her renowned portrayal of Mary Tyrone in LONG DAY’S JOURNEY INTO NIGHT in 1982 and the following year as Karen Richards in APPLAUSE, the TN! Theatre Company, as well as 32 productions with the Union Theatre/Union Theatre Repertory Company, now Melbourne Theatre Company, which included BLITHE SPIRIT (1962), THREE SISTERS (1968) and A DAY IN THE DEATH OF JOE EGG (1968).

Elaine passed away on January 20, 2024.
