My Broadway Parody Posters
We all needed some light relief. 🎭 😷 While in quarantine / isolation since Christmas in 2019 in Shanghai, I’ve been teaching myself Adobe Illustrator and Photoshop (just by trial and error) and I’ve re-imagined and parodied over 100 iconic posters of many Broadway shows since February 2020. It’s been a great way to rekindle remote friendships, and for others to copy/create their own Broadway parodies.
I hope you enjoy them…

Many have asked my process…
- Think of a suitable subject for this special time;
- Find the best original source material (either scanning what I have or searching);
- Use the original Broadway windowcard or poster as a positioning and color template;
- Recreate the base original theatre art in as many separate layers of Photoshop as possible;
- Avoid using more than 20% of the original Broadway poster, ideally none;
- Use font matching app on smartphone to try and find similar fonts;
- Once the original Broadway windowcard is re-created and formed, copy the layers and commence editing;
- Respect the original brand and artists work;
- Manipulate the newly created theatre art to form my Broadway parody vision;
- Try and match the color, positioning and general aesthetic;
- Use my face wherever possible;
- Edit the title font to parody desires;
- Positioning and layout size for Broadway Parody Window Card;
- Add parody or funny billing credits;
- Add the layers of theatre name, buying choices etc…;
- Compare general aesthetic to original side by side;
- Final color correct;
- Write a short descriptor;
- Save and publish.
